Expanded
Programs More Inclusive
Our
programs have grown to serve an expanded set of age groups in town.
This season, elementary students will participate in
developmental programs designed to introduce the sport to young
athletes offering learn to skate and skills instructions. At the middle
school, we have boys and girls teams competing against other
middle school programs, preparing them for high school. And at the high
school, young men and women will compete against teams from all
over the region under the direction of Phil Bateman for the boys
varsity and Bill MacDonald for the girls varsity. Please visit the web
site www.waylandhockey.org
for information.
The
growth in these programs is not possible without our ability to raise
private funds. The Wayland Hockey Association is responsible for ALL
expenses of the Wayland boys varsity and the Wayland/Weston girls
varsity. This mainly consists of ice time, buses, coaching and
equipment. The players pay tuition to offset the expenses. The boys
pay $1,500 per player and the girls $1,200 per player. (The girls
costs are reduced because they do not use buses as often.) Still, it
is not enough to cover expenses.
In order to continue to offer our youth excellent coaching and
ice time, we will need to raise over $65,000 this year. We will
also need to reach out to a number of people and businesses beyond our
immediate group to help us to reach our goal.
A challenge grant
to encourage broad support has been established to match each gift,
dollar for dollar, up to a total of $10,000. We hope you will
consider making a gift to assist us in meeting this challenge.
Please
know that all gifts can truly make a difference in our ability to
continue to offer the excitement of hockey to Wayland and Weston’s
youth. Your support is vital and greatly appreciated.
We
wish you and your family a Healthy Happy New Year and hope to see you
at the rink!
Most
sincerely,
