Wayland hockey hosted its 4th annual Cochituate Cup Pond Hockey tournament this past Sunday on Dudley Pond – a tradition where Wayland hockey players pay tribute to their pond-playing predecessors with throwback jerseys sporting the same-styled “C” of the old semi-professional hockey team, the Cochituate Huskies. As always, Wayland hockey would like to thank the following local businesses for each sponsoring one of the six teams: Steve Henley Memorial Fund, Mel’s Cafe, M.J. Henley Lawn Sprinklers, the Longfellow Club, M. Henley Snowplowing, and Inspired Blarney Freelance Writing.
Conditions were adequate on Dudley Pond and parents pitched in by helping the boys shovel off(snow-blow) the pond and springing for pizza and Gatorades. Special thanks to Mike Henley, Tony Christakis, and Bob Jones Sr. for all of their help during the day.

Andrew Ludwig becomes the first goaltender to have his name engraved on the trophy and was a surprising contributor throughout the tournament, scoring several goals. Junior Joe Orlandella joins his brother Pete as the only siblings to hoist the trophy to date. Coach Muzz and Powers proved that they still have the legs and competitive fire to get it done against the younger, far more in shape competitors. The two were more relieved than anything at the conclusion of the event. Continue reading
The boys varsity hockey team will take part in their annual Cochituate Cup team-wide pond hockey tournament on Saturday February 13th. The tournament will kick-off around 1pm on Dudley Pond in Wayland. The event was created to pay respect to the rich history of hockey in Wayland, where teams like the Cochituate Huskies would play outdoor games in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The winning team will have their name engraved on the Cochituate Cup trophy with the previous winners. This is the 4th year the event has taken place. Feel free to come out and watch and maybe skate around a bit with the boys!
