2nd Annual Cochituate Cup Pond Hockey Tournament

RackMultipart20140127-29476-12u3402 Wayland hockey hosted its 2nd annual Cochituate Cup Pond Hockey tournament yesterday on Dudley Pond. This year the Wayland hockey players paid tribute to their pond-playing predecessors with throwback jerseys sporting the same-styled “C” of the old semi-professional hockey team, the Cochituate Huskies. Wayland hockey would like to thank the following local businesses for each sponsoring one of the six teams: Steve Henley Memorial Fund, Mel’s Cafe, M.J. Henley Lawn Sprinklers, the Longfellow Club, M. Henley Snowplowing, and Inspired Blarney Freelance Writing. Here’s a picture of the back of the jerseys with sponsors showing.

It was another great success. The boys made a fire pit to keep everyone who wasn’t playing warm and Mr. & Mrs. Love were again gracious enough to man the grill and keep everyone fed all day long. The ice was a little more rough than last year due to the recent mix of snow and rain, but games were still very competitive. The tournament welcomed Wayland girl players this year and Gianna Fargnoli participated, representing her WarCat counterparts well in helping her Maroon teammates to the tournament finals. At the end of the day, the White team of Lucas Bastarache, Jake Brady, Travis Poulin, and Peter Christakis emerged from the loser’s bracket to best the Maroon squad twice to hoist the Cochituate Cup. Cochituate Cup est. 2013
